Benefits Of CMMC

CMMC Benefits

With all Department of Defense contracts needing to meet CMMC requirements by 2025, it’s imperative that those contractors that work with the DoD get started on achieving their own CMMC certification. But the mandate is not the only reason for companies to invest in being certified to one of the five levels of CMMC.
The real benefit to companies that undergo the certification is to enhance the protection of controlled unclassified information (CIU) and intellectual property (IP) within the supply chain of the U.S. Defense Industrial Base (DIB). This will help reduce the (on average) $600 billion in IP lost annually due to the hacking of our DIB.
As such, the benefits of becoming CMMC certified include:
-
A reduction of risk against a specific set of cyber threats through implementation of cybersecurity standards, best practices, controls, and process across several maturity levels that range from basic cyber hygiene to advanced.
-
Building upon existing regulations (DFARS 252.204-7012), that are based on trust, by adding a verification component with respect to cybersecurity requirements.
-
A cost-effective and affordable way for small businesses to implement lower CMMC levels.
